Egyptian authorities said yesterday that they will review the legality of Al Jazeera Mubasher (Al Jazeera Live) in Egypt.
The channel which reported the statement yesterday said it reflected a plan by the Egyptian government to ban Al Jazeera’s activities in the context of the July 30 military take-over and the arrest of a number of Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt.
The Egyptian Information Minister, Durriya Sharafaddin, said in the statement that the government decision came as the Egyptian people were disappointed by the way the channel was covering the events in the country.
Meanwhile, an Egyptian court has extended the remand of Al Jazeera journalist Abdalla Al Shami for another 15 days. He was taken into custody during a military crackdown on a sit-in at Rabia Al Adabiya square in Cairo.
Al Jazeera Mubasher photographer Mohammed Badr was also arrested about one month ago.
