A lower criminal court has handed out the death sentence to two young men for killing in cold blood a security guard of a famous automobile showroom and stealing a brand new car for a fun ride.

Another two youngsters who were minors and accomplices in the hair-raising crime, have been sentenced to five years in jail by a juvenile court, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

The foursome, according to details of the case, went to the showroom when it was closed and told the security guard that a ball they were playing was accidentally lodged inside the showroom.

The unassuming guard, taking their story to be true, took them in, while one youngster stayed out keeping a watch.

As soon as the three youth were inside, they locked the door of the showroom from inside and began kicking the security guard. They forced the guard on to the ground and one of them began strangling him as the other two kept kicking him until the guard died.

After making sure that the guard had died, the three youngsters dragged his body to one of the brand new cars on display in the showroom and locked it in.

They then made their way to another brand new car and drove it out. They later managed to get hold of a scrapped number plate which they used on this stolen car.

They drove the car briefly and later abandoned it in a deserted area.

The youth were caught and said during interrogation that they were friends and had decided to steal a car from the famous showroom, so they drew up a plan and acted on it. They said they went to the showroom carrying a knife which they didn’t use.

The defence has gone in appeal pleading that their sentences be changed into jail terms.

The defence, according to Al Sharq, has argued that the intention of the convicts was not to kill but to steal the car.

Also the fact that they had a knife but didn’t use it to kill the security guard showed they had no intention of killing him, said the defence.
