Pope tells Ireland he feels ‘pain, shame’ over sex abuse scandal

Pope Francis says he feels shame over the Catholic Church’s failure to prevent sexual abuse by members of the clergy.

During a visit to Ireland, he referred to abusers as “repugnant”.

He also met with survivors of clerical abuse, as he tries to reinvigorate Catholicism in a country rocked by decades of scandals involving the church.

Al Jazeera’s Neave Barker reports from Dublin.
