Qatar Airways has increased the check-in baggage allowance for its passengers flying from Doha and other destinations worldwide. The increased allowance will come into force on September 1.
Those travelling in economy class will be able to carry 30kg instead of 23kg, while the baggage allowance for business class passengers has increased from 30kg to 40kg. First class passengers are allowed to carry 50kg instead of 40kg.
Passengers travelling from Doha to some destinations like India have already been availing of a higher baggage allowance and this will continue, a Qatar Airways source clarified yesterday.
They will also benefit from the increased allowance while returning to Doha or flying other Qatar Airways routes.
The number of bags allowed per person remains the same and is dependent on the type of ticket purchased.
The increased baggage allowance does not apply when travelling to points that are regulated by per-piece allowance, the airline said yesterday in a statement. “Revising our standard baggage allowance comes at a time when the number of destinations we fly is increasing and our global reach is broadening,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.
“The number of customers we see travelling for longer periods of time, whether for business or on holiday, reflects the necessity for increased baggage allowance no matter their destination,” he added.
Those passengers who have travelled before September 1 will be able to take advantage of the increased baggage allowance on their return trip if they travel on September 1 or later. The company will announce new excess baggage rates in September which will also see an increase.
Passengers will be able to purchase excess baggage at discounted rates of up to 20 percent on qatarairways.com.
Privilege Club members will continue to enjoy excess baggage allowance in addition to the new increased baggage allowance.
