The leading consumer electronics and entertainment brand, Sony, has come out with a new and unique portable wireless server (PWS) that provides users with convenient options to view, share, and store content on the move or at home from their smartphones.

The versatile device serves as a battery charger and card reader/writer, offering users added control when managing multimedia data such as photos, videos, music files and office documents. With a wireless connection, users can transfer content utilising PWS as a convenient option for smartphones, especially for devices that do not have a memory card slot.

The PWS can also connect several devices via Wi-Fi at one time, allowing up to eight users to simultaneously share and playback same or different content. The PWS also functions as a back-up power source for smartphones or digital cameras. Consumers can use the PWS for up to 10 hours of continuous MP3 playback. All controls are managed by the smartphone or tablet through the PWS Manager App (available at Google Play or App Store).

There was no information available about the availability and price of the product in Qatar. Despite attempts by this newspaper, no one was available for comment at the Fifty One East, the authorised dealer of Sony products in the country.

However, a sales manager at a leading hypermarket along with D-Ring road said: “We have heard about the product, but have not received any stock so far. “Maybe, we will be able to give any updates about the price and availability of PWS after a couple of days.” However, the PWS model WG-C10 will be available in the UAE from today onwards at about AED390, while the device will go on sale in Australia and other markets this October with pricing and availability to be confirmed closer to launch.
