Public transport company Mowasalat is to add new vehicles to its airport fleet with the aim of providing a hassle-free travelling experience to passengers who use Doha International Airport, a senior company official has said.
The company is set to introduce 50 vans to its airport service, Ali Abdulla Bahzad, director of operations at Mowasalat, has told local Arabic daily Al-Sharq.
Mowasalat is the sole operator of public transport in Qatar and runs the Karwa brand of taxis and buses in the country.
Bahzad said the new vehicles would have a seating capacity of seven and more room for luggage. The company’s airport fleet will be upgraded as soon as the new vehicles are received from local distributors.
The other two operators who have been licensed by Mowasalat, Al Million and Al Ijarah, will work with Karwa to expand the airport service to provide the “maximum possible service”.
Bahzad pointed out that the booking of taxis through the call centre would be changed into an electronic system where reservations would be done through an automated process.
“A reception clerk would follow up the request through a monitor showing the distribution and locations of available taxis and direct the nearest cab to go to the customer,” he said. “This task will be outsourced and a separate company will be assigned to take over this service, which would be implemented during next year.”
He said the reservation centre at the airport worked round the clock as the demand had been increasing all year round.
Mowasalat will also increase the number of taxi ranks around the country, adopting a “more sophisticated distribution plan that keep pace with the vast developments taking place in the country”.
The director stressed that Mowasalat had made available more taxis for the Eid festivities, particularly at popular locations. “Taxis and supervisors were available 24 hours at such hot spots.”
He said the Karwa fleet had executed 3.12mn trips during January-June this year, with the limousine fleet doing 29,928 trips during the six months.
