The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is holding a health awareness campaign in four malls during Ramadan, to achieve community participation and advise people on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
The ‘Awareness Campaign for the Holy Month of Ramadan’ is being held in accordance with the National Primary Health Care Strategy 2013-2018.
A team of medical staff, including a doctor and nurses, were at Villaggio Mall during the weekend, and will be at Al Khor Mall, Centre Point Mall and Wathnan Mall from 8pm to 11pm during the coming weekend.
During the campaign, a physician will be available to answer queries, while nurses will measure blood pressure and glucose level in diabetics. PHCC staff will hand out brochures and gift bags.
The campaign aims to achieve one of the key principles the strategy, which is to involve the communities including schools, religious organisations and businesses.
The PHCC understands how these communities influence health and it works in partnership with them to promote health.
One of the main targets is to address one of the important health issues facing Qatari community: Chronic non-communicable diseases.
Their prevalence is high and the situation could worsen because of unhealthy lifestyles being adopted by many in Qatar.
