Iraq\u2019s premier backed the Egyptian military crackdown on supporters of ousted president Mohammed Mursi in a statement yesterday, the latest Arab leader to back the operation.
\nNuri Al Maliki appealed for \u201cself-restraint\u201d but said Baghdad stood with the Egyptian government, describing its moves against the Muslim Brotherhood as efforts to impose law and order.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stand strongly with the Egyptian government in its steps to impose the rule of law and install security and peace across all of Egypt,\u201d Maliki said in a statement on his website.<\/p>\n
Maliki said the ongoing violence in Egypt was the result of a \u201cconspiracy targeting the desires of the Egyptian people\u201d.
