{"id":487,"date":"2013-07-29T16:35:03","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T16:35:03","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2015-05-29T12:39:10","modified_gmt":"2015-05-29T12:39:10","slug":"content225bn-deals-awarded-riyadh-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=487","title":{"rendered":"$22.5bn deals awarded for Riyadh metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saudi Arabian government awarded $22.5bn in contracts to three foreign-led consortia yesterday for the design and construction of a metro rail system in the capital Riyadh.<br \/>\nThe project, which will involve six rail lines extending 176km and carrying electric, driverless trains, is the world\u2019s largest public transport system currently under development, Saudi officials said.<br \/>\nUS construction giant Bechtel Corp heads a group which won a $9.45bn contract to build two lines, the government announced.<br \/>\nA consortium led by Spain\u2019s Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas won a $7.82bn contract for three lines, while Italy\u2019s Ansaldo STS heads a group that won a $5.21bn order.<br \/>\nDesign work will start immediately and construction will begin in the first quarter of 2014. The project would be completed in 2019.
