I can feel it and it is greatly appreciated,\u201d the Serbian wrote on Instagram on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/1\/4\/tennis-djokovic-medical-exemption-australian-open-covid\">granted a medical exemption<\/a> from Australia\u2019s strict COVID-19 vaccination requirement following a review by two independent panels prior to boarding his flight, but was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/1\/5\/australia-cancels-novak-djokovic-visa\">denied entry<\/a> upon landing in Melbourne late on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old is currently housed in a government detention hotel in the suburb of Carlton, 5km (3 miles) north of Melbourne Park, after authorities cancelled his visa when he arrived in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The player\u2019s lawyers launched an appeal seeking to overturn the federal government decision, with a court agreeing not to deport him before a full hearing scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic\u2019s wife Jelena also took to social media to express her gratitude to the player\u2019s fans for their backing.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cThank you dear people, all around the world for using your voice to send love to my husband.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"770\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q9q5jnjxcRE?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am taking a deep breath to calm down and find gratitude [and understanding] in this moment for all that is happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s Nick Kyrgios, who has been a fierce critic of Djokovic on many matters, weighed in on Twitter on Friday to call for his country to \u201cdo better\u201d in its treatment of the nine-time Australian Open champion.<\/p>\n<p>The world number 93 wrote: \u201cLook I definitely believe in taking action, I got vaccinated because of others and for my mums health, but how we are handling Novak\u2019s situation is bad, really bad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike these memes, headlines, this is one of our great champions but\u00a0at the end of the day, he is human. Do better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Belgrade, Djokovic\u2019s father Srdjan demonstrated on Thursday outside the National Assembly buildings and addressed a media conference to highlight what he perceived to be an injustice.<\/p>\n<p>He said the player has been made a scapegoat and \u201ccrucified\u201d in the row.<\/p>\n<p>The Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), founded by Djokovic and Canadian player Vasek Pospisil, issued a statement on Friday following contact with the men\u2019s world number one.<\/p>\n<p>It read: \u201cThe PTPA has been in close contact with Mr Djokovic, his\u00a0family and legal counsel, government officials and Australian Open\u00a0leadership. Mr Djokovic has verified his well-being to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has also requested that we allow him to personally share the\u00a0facts of his detainment in his own words, and in his own time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"770\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v_-9lSoLGuY?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews confirmed all other players with\u00a0exemptions would be looked at closely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs people come into Australia, they need to have met our entry\u00a0requirements as well as having a visa,\u201d she told Channel 9 news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey stand the risk if they come in and don\u2019t have the proper documentation, that they will be stopped at the border and will go through exactly the same process which is being played out now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian Open organisers have been notably quiet since Djokovic\u2019s detention and much of the focus now is on how there could have been such an apparent discrepancy between what players were told regarding exemptions and the stance of the border force.<\/p>\n<p>It has caused a serious diplomatic incident between Australia and Serbia, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic claiming Djokovic was the victim of \u201cpolitical persecution\u201d by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and others in the country\u2019s government, calling on them to move him from the \u201chorrific hotel\u201d where he is being detained into a private rented house.<\/p>\n<p>Andrews maintained Djokovic was not being detained under duress,\u00a0telling ABC: \u201c[He] is not being held captive in Australia.
