{"id":45389,"date":"2021-05-16T15:22:41","date_gmt":"2021-05-16T15:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=45389"},"modified":"2021-05-16T15:22:41","modified_gmt":"2021-05-16T15:22:41","slug":"israeli-strikes-kill-33-topple-buildings-in-gaza-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=45389","title":{"rendered":"Israeli strikes kill 33, topple buildings in Gaza City"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>As Palestinians observe \u2018Nakba\u2019 worldwide, Israeli forces go on rampage in Gaza<\/h2>\n<div readability=\"203.74674449933\">\n<p>\nGAZA CITY\/LONDON\/NEW YORK: Palestinians on Saturday marked the anniversary of the Nakba, the \u201ccatastrophe\u201d when more than 700,000 were driven from their homes to establish the state of Israel in 1948.<\/p>\n<p>\nIsrael observed the day by killing two women and eight children from one family in an airstrike on a refugee camp.<\/p>\n<p>\nThree heavy missiles also destroyed the 12-story Al-Jala\u2019a Tower in Gaza City, which housed the offices of media outlets including The Associated Press and Al Jazeera, and bombed the home of Khalil Al-Hayeh, a senior Hamas leader.<\/p>\n<p>\nIsraeli airstrikes on Gaza have killed at least 139 people, including 39 children and 22 women.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nHamas has fired hundreds of rockets into Israel and killed eight people, the latest on Saturday when a man died in a rocket strike on the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan.<\/p>\n<p>\nThere was outrage over the attack on the AP building, which also contained residential apartments. The Israeli military said Hamas was operating inside the building, but offered no evidence.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThe world will know less about what is happening in Gaza because of what happened today,\u201d AP chief executive Gary Pruitt said. \u201cWe are shocked and horrified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nEarlier, an Israeli air raid on the densely populated Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City killed 10 Palestinians from one family, Israel\u2019s deadliest single strike of the conflict.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"447\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/userimages\/20\/nakba_betlehem.jpg\" width=\"670\"><figcaption>\nPalestinians burn an Israeli flag in the occupied-West Bank town of Bethlehem on May 15,2021, as they commemorate the Nakba, the &#8220;catastrophe&#8221; of Israel&#8217;s creation in 1948. A five-month-old baby survived, along with Abu Hatab\u2019s daughter, who is in intensive care.<\/p>\n<p>\nAbu Hatab\u2019s brother-in-law Muhammad Al-Hadidi wept as he told Arab News how his children had insisted on spending the night at their uncle\u2019s house to play with their cousins.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cI heard the sound of the bombing, but I did not know it was the building my wife and children were in. I received a call to tell me Abu Hatab\u2019s house was targeted. I went quickly, to find all my children with my wife, under the rubble.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"simplebox opinion\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>\nThis section contains relevant reference points, placed in (Opinion field)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\nAs Israeli airstrikes continued, Heba Al-Attar, 45, told Arab News: \u201cThe feeling I have is, when will I be killed? When will our house be destroyed? How will my three children live without me if they survive? I feel scared every day, I can\u2019t sleep at night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nSaudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called on Saturday for an immediate ceasefire. They urged \u201cthe international community to confront the aggressive Israeli practices against the brotherly Palestinian people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Tens of thousands march<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nAs Israeli forces stepped up the bombardment of Gaza, tens of thousands of protesters marched in major European cities including London, Berlin, Madrid and Paris in support of the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn London, several thousand protesters carrying placards reading \u201cStop Bombing Gaza\u201d and chanting \u201cFree Palestine\u201d converged on Marble Arch, near the British capital\u2019s Hyde Park, to march toward the Israeli embassy.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"472px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZMo7RgWJIuQ\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"600px\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nPacked crowds stretched all along Kensington High Street where the embassy is located.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis time is different,\u201d Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot told the demonstrators.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis time we will not be denied any more. We are united.
