{"id":44371,"date":"2020-11-29T11:23:49","date_gmt":"2020-11-29T11:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=44371"},"modified":"2020-11-29T11:23:49","modified_gmt":"2020-11-29T11:23:49","slug":"trump-loses-another-election-court-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=44371","title":{"rendered":"Trump loses another election court challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\">Republican lawsuit sought to invalidate mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, where President-elect Biden won by 81,000 votes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div readability=\"83.395683453237\">\n<p>The US state of Pennsylvania\u2019s supreme court has dismissed another legal challenge to the election by supporters of President Donald Trump, further reducing his already near-impossible odds of overturning the results.<\/p>\n<p>A Republican lawsuit sought to invalidate mail-in ballots in the battleground state \u2013 which President-elect Joe Biden won by about 81,000 votes \u2013 or to throw out all votes and allow the state\u2019s legislature to decide the winner.<\/p>\n<p>The court dismissed both claims on Saturday in a unanimous decision, calling the second one an \u201cextraordinary proposition that the court disenfranchise all 6.9 million Pennsylvanians who voted in the general election\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit argued that a Pennsylvania law from 2019 allowing universal mail-in voting was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>The judges said their November 21 challenge to the law was filed too late, coming more than a year after it was enacted and with the election results \u201cbecoming seemingly apparent\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.363945578231\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The number of ballots that our Campaign is challenging in the Pennsylvania case is FAR LARGER than the 81,000 vote margin. The lawsuit had also sought to stop certification.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s decision follows a long line of similar ones, including a ruling the day before in which a federal appeals court flatly dismissed Trump\u2019s claim that the election was unfair and refused to freeze Biden\u2019s win in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has refused to give up on his claims of fraud in the November 3 election despite repeated court defeats, tweeting conspiracy theories and vowing to continue his legal fight.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, he said for the first time that he would leave the White House if Biden is officially confirmed the winner by the Electoral College on December 14.<\/p>\n<p>But on Friday he tweeted that \u201cBiden can only enter the White House as president if he can prove that his ridiculous \u201880,000,000 votes\u2019 were not fraudulently or illegally obtained\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, who is to be sworn in on January 20, won 306 votes in the Electoral College to Trump\u2019s 232.<\/p>\n<p>The president-elect has said Americans \u201cwon\u2019t stand\u201d for attempts to derail the vote outcome.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican lawsuit sought to invalidate mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, where President-elect Biden won by 81,000 votes.The US state of Pennsylvania\u2019s supreme court has dismissed another legal challenge to the election by supporters of President Donald Trump, further reducing his already near-impossible odds of overturning the results.
