{"id":43748,"date":"2020-09-08T22:23:45","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T22:23:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=43748"},"modified":"2020-09-08T22:23:45","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T22:23:45","slug":"houthis-risk-hampering-covid-19-efforts-after-closing-yemens-sanaa-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=43748","title":{"rendered":"Houthis risk hampering COVID-19 efforts after closing Yemen\u2019s Sanaa airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"92\">\n<p>\nAMMAN: Jordan has condemned what it described as \u201ccontinuous Israeli violations\u201d at Jerusalem\u2019s Al-Aqsa Mosque after Israeli security personnel used a ladder to install loudspeakers on one of the mosque\u2019s minarets.<\/p>\n<p>\nForeign ministry spokesperson Deifallah Fayez said the Israeli forces\u2019 \u201cabsurd practices\u201d at the UNESCO world heritage site are \u201cirresponsible and constitute a provocation of the feelings of Muslims around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nAl-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe ministry submitted an official protest after the work was carried out on Sunday despite objections by mosque authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\nA ministry statement called on Israel \u201cto stop its violations and provocations, and respect the authority of the Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nFayez said that Israeli measures are \u201ca flagrant violation\u201d of its commitments under international law.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"675\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/userimages\/1036116\/climbing_2.jpg\" width=\"1200\"><\/p>\n<p>\nAl-Aqsa Mosque is a \u201cpure\u201d Islamic holy site and the Jerusalem awqaf department is \u201cthe sole authority\u201d tasked with supervising its affairs, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\nFayez urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel to halt its violations at the site.<\/p>\n<p>\nJordan also denounced Israel\u2019s arrest of several staff of the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Department, which is affiliated with Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>\nWasfi Kailani, executive director of the Hashemite Fund for the Restoration of Al-Aqsa, told Arab News that the Israeli action violates a century-old agreement that prevents external intervention in Islam\u2019s holy places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtecenter\">\n<strong>******<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtecenter\">\n<strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Jordan calls on Israel to respect Al-Aqsa mosque sanctity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtecenter\">\n<strong>******<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nJordanian waqf officials based in Jerusalem are reluctant to talk with the Israelis and prefer any issue regarding the Al-Aqsa mosque to be handled on a diplomatic basis. Israel accepts that Jordan has a say in the running of the mosque.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the wake of the arrests, Jordan\u2019s Awqaf Minister Mohammad Khalileh condemned what is said were \u201cattacks by the Israeli occupation forces on the staff of his ministry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cAll those who work in the Jerusalem waqf department and the guards of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Awqad Council are employees of the Jordanian Ministry of Islamic Waqf,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\nMeanwhile, 250 Jerusalem business owners are expected to receive a\u00a0$1,000 cash stipend earmarked to support Palestinian businesses, while others will receive $2,500 to help deal with the economic loss due to coronavirus, Hijazi Risheq, head of the Jerusalem Merchants Council, told Arab News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMMAN: Jordan has condemned what it described as \u201ccontinuous Israeli violations\u201d at Jerusalem\u2019s Al-Aqsa Mosque after Israeli security personnel used a ladder to install loudspeakers on one of the mosque\u2019s minarets.
