{"id":42359,"date":"2020-02-22T19:23:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-22T19:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=42359"},"modified":"2020-02-22T19:23:32","modified_gmt":"2020-02-22T19:23:32","slug":"egyptian-court-acquits-mubaraks-sons-of-illicit-share-trading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=42359","title":{"rendered":"Egyptian court acquits Mubarak\u2019s sons of illicit share trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><h2>Leaked audio of Assad forces shooting elderly women in Idlib proves civilian killings: Report<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div readability=\"89.146716541978\">\n<p>\nLONDON: Syrian regime forces deliberately killed elderly women in the northwestern region of Idlib, leaked <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2020\/02\/21\/exclusive-syrian-forces-deliberately-shot-elderly-women-near\/\" target=\"_blank\">recordings obtained by the UK\u2019s Daily Telegraph<\/a><\/strong> have shown.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe audio recordings from Feb. 11 also suggest that forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad attacked Turkish military posts in violation of a cease-fire deal.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe recordings captured a conversation between soldiers from the infamous elite Tiger Forces, the 25th Division,\u00a0tracking a vehicle driving into the village of Mizanaz, to the west of Aleppo.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the audio, intercepted by spotters at an observatory in the local area who picked up the soldiers\u2019 frequency, one soldier can be heard saying: \u201cThere are women driving, their car is stuck in the mud and they\u2019re headed to a battlefield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VNJxPzM_sY0\" width=\"560px\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nA second soldier said: \u201cShe looks elderly. It\u2019s clear she\u2019s coming to pack her belongings, then she\u2019s leaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nDespite a clear identification of the women, one of the soldiers is heard saying: \u201cI\u2019m watching them. They\u2019re about to enter a house. Yallah, I\u2019m firing now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nAt that point, rapid machine gun fire can be heard on the tape. \u201cFire, fire, I\u2019m observing for you,\u201d the second soldier replies.<\/p>\n<p>\nLocal media reports from the time and date of the audio recording support the assertion that the women were killed in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\nRegime forces have used attacks on civilians as part of their strategy to clear rebel-held areas of the country, while attacking civilian institutions such as schools and hospitals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nIn September 2019, pro-Assad militants reportedly executed an elderly woman who refused to leave her home when it was confiscated after they recaptured the town of Khan Sheikhoun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nAccording to figures from the Syrian Network for Human Rights, regime forces and their Russian allies are responsible for 90 percent of civilian deaths in the nine-year conflict, with three-quarters of those people victims of artillery or aerial shelling.
