{"id":42174,"date":"2020-01-03T18:37:02","date_gmt":"2020-01-03T18:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=42174"},"modified":"2020-01-03T18:37:02","modified_gmt":"2020-01-03T18:37:02","slug":"lebanons-president-hopes-government-will-be-formed-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=42174","title":{"rendered":"Lebanon\u2019s president hopes government will be formed next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"52\">\n<p>\nBEIRUT: Former Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn, who skipped bail in Japan and fled to Beirut, is due to be summoned by Lebanon\u2019s public prosecutor next week, an official said Friday.<br \/>The Lebanese authorities have already stressed that Ghosn \u2014 who holds the French, Lebanese and Brazilian nationalities \u2014 had entered the country legally and that Beirut had no extradition agreement with Japan.<br \/>An official speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity said a summons was expected to be handed to Ghosn next week, as a result of Interpol issuing a \u201cred notice\u201d against him.<br \/>\u201cThe Lebanese judiciary is obliged to hear him. But it can still decide whether to arrest him or let him remain free,\u201d the official said, adding that Ghosn could be heard on January 7 or 8.<br \/>Ghosn, once Japan\u2019s best paid corporate executive, was arrested in November 2018 and has been under house arrest since April, facing multiple charges of financial misconduct.<br \/>Claiming the Japanese judiciary was \u201crigged\u201d and that he would not receive a fair trial, Ghosn skipped bail on December 30 and flew to Beirut on a private jet.<br \/>The exact circumstances of his escape remain unclear.<br \/>The 65-year-old is due to talk to the press in Beirut next week.<br \/>\u201cI have not fled justice \u2014 I have escaped injustice and political persecution,\u201d said Ghosn in a December 31 statement.<br \/>An Interpol \u2018red notice\u2019 is a request to law enforcement across the world to provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender or similar legal action.
