{"id":41808,"date":"2019-12-04T04:22:38","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T04:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=41808"},"modified":"2019-12-04T04:22:38","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T04:22:38","slug":"anger-in-china-as-us-house-passes-uighur-crackdown-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=41808","title":{"rendered":"Anger in China as US House passes Uighur crackdown bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"153.67018072289\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/china.html\">China<\/a> has reacted angrily after the US House of Representatives passed a bill requiring the Trump administration to toughen its response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/subjects\/xinjiang.html\">Xinjiang<\/a>, where the more than one million Muslims, mostly ethnic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/subjects\/uighur.html\">Uighurs<\/a>, are being held in re-education camps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>In a statement released shortly after the Uighur Act of 2019 was passed, China&#8217;s foreign ministry on Wednesday condemned the move, saying the bill &#8220;wantonly smears China&#8217;s efforts to eliminate and combat extremism&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>More:<\/h4>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/united-states.html\">United States<\/a>&#8216;s lower house voted to back the bill 407 to one in a vote on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">It has still to be approved by the Senate before it can be sent to President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/people\/donald-trump.html\">Donald Trump<\/a>.
