He would then request a new cabinet to be formed.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers had questioned Sheikh Khalid over alleged abuse of power, charges he rejected. The country&#8217;s public works minister resigned on Friday after being grilled by parliament about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/subjects\/floods.html\">flood<\/a> damage in the desert country following heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>Kuwait, an ally of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/united-states.html\">United States<\/a> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/organisations\/opec.html\">OPEC<\/a> producer, has the most open political system in the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/organisations\/gcc.html\">GCC<\/a>), with a parliament that has the power to pass legislation and question ministers.<\/p>\n<p>The government is headed by a prime minister selected by the emir, who has the final say in state matters.
