It is the latest twist involving the vessel at the center of a standoff between Tehran and the West.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\">The warrant comes<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2019\/08\/15\/middleeast\/gibraltar-grace-1-oil-tanker-gbr-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"> just a day<\/a> after a judge in Gibraltar said the Grace 1 supertanker &#8212; which is <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/uk-mideast-iran-tanker\/u-s-issues-warrant-to-seize-iranian-tanker-off-gibraltar-idUKKCN1V7058\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a> carrying 2.1 million barrels of oil &#8212; was free to set sail.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\">The tanker was<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2019\/07\/04\/uk\/tanker-syria-gibraltar-intl-gbr\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"> seized by authorities<\/a> while passing through Gibraltar&#8217;s waters in early July on suspicion of taking oil to Syria &#8212; which would have been in breach of European Union sanctions.
