{"id":39566,"date":"2019-05-31T12:25:22","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T12:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=39566"},"modified":"2019-05-31T12:25:22","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T12:25:22","slug":"saudi-fm-gulf-solution-possible-if-qatar-returns-to-right-path","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=39566","title":{"rendered":"Saudi FM: Gulf solution possible if Qatar returns to &#8216;right path&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"121.317537073\">\n<p class=\"speakable\"><span>Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf has said a solution to the Gulf crisis would only be possible if Doha returns to the &#8220;right path&#8221;, an indication that the kingdom&#8217;s position on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2017\/06\/qatar-diplomatic-crisis-latest-updates-170605105550769.html\">blockade of Qatar<\/a> has not changed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"><span>The Saudi minister&#8217;s remarks came during the three-day emergency summits the kingdom is hosting, with Qatar&#8217;s Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani attending the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Sheikh Abdullah&#8217;s presence in Mecca is the first time a high-profile Qatari official has visited <a class=\"InternalLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/saudi-arabia.html\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> since it, along with\u00a0the United Arab Emirates (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/united-arab-emirates.html\">UAE<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/bahrain.html\">Bahrain<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/egypt.html\">Egypt<\/a>, enforced an economic and diplomatic boycott against<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/Qatar.html\">Qatar<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>in June 2017 over allegations of supporting &#8220;terrorism&#8221;, a charge Doha<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">\u00a0<\/span>denies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Qatar participated in previous summits, so it is not new,&#8221; said al-Assaf when asked about Qatar&#8217;s presence at the summits.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Saudi stance, like the other countries, is that we are looking for a solution for the causes of the problems and the crisis between these countries and Qatar,&#8221; said a political analyst as quoted by the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Qatar&#8217;s mediation has led to peace in several parts of the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">On Friday, <\/span>King Salman said decisive action was needed to stop Iranian &#8220;escalations&#8221; following attacks on Gulf oil assets.<\/p>\n<p>The rights of<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">\u00a0Saudi\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Arabia\u00a0<\/span>and the UAE to defend their interests after the attacks on oil pumping stations in the kingdom and tankers off the UAE was supported in a Gulf-Arab statement and a separate communique issued later.
