{"id":38939,"date":"2019-04-10T10:22:44","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T10:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=38939"},"modified":"2019-04-10T10:22:44","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T10:22:44","slug":"maduro-says-venezuela-ready-to-receive-international-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=38939","title":{"rendered":"Maduro says Venezuela ready to receive international aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"121.726610429\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said his country was ready to receive international aid following a meeting with the Red Cross chief, as the Latin American nation plunged into a new round of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/04\/venezuela-maduro-announces-power-rationing-blackouts-190401061302643.html\">blackouts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">&#8220;We confirm our readiness to establish cooperation mechanisms for international assistance and support,&#8221; Maduro said on Twitter on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The president, who denies that the current situation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/venezuela.html\">Venezuela<\/a> can be described as a humanitarian crisis, reiterated after the meeting that collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) should respect &#8220;the Venezuelan legal order.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An ICRC delegation led by its president Peter Maurer has been in the South American country since Saturday and is due to finish its visit on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The ICRC said last Friday in a statement it was &#8220;concerned by the serious impact that the current situation has on Venezuelans, especially those who do not have access to basic services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a new power cut hit large parts of Venezuela, including the capital, Caracas, forcing many to spend another night in the dark on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div data-embed-type=\"Brightcove\" data-embed-id=\"6014902394001\">\n<table class=\"in-article-item video\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody readability=\"1\">\n<tr>\n<td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr readability=\"3\">\n<td readability=\"5\">\n<p>US sanctions on Venezuela hurt vulnerable ordinary people<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span>Electricity shortage<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The electricity shortage &#8211; the biggest in a week &#8211; hit a large section of the capital, with social media posts from residents across the country suggesting significant areas in at least 20 of the 23 states of Venezuela were also affected.<\/p>\n<p>An hour after the lights went out, some areas of the capital regained power. No reason for the blackout was immediately given by the government or the state electricity company Corpoelec.<\/p>\n<p>The company set up to confront the crisis &#8220;is working to reestablish the service&#8221;, reported the country&#8217;s state TV channel VTV.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela has been plunged into a deep political crisis, with opposition leader Juan Guaido proclaiming himself acting president in January.<\/p>\n<p>He has since been recognised by more than 50 countries, including the United States, which wants Maduro, a protege of former President Hugo Chavez, to step down.<\/p>\n<p>With its crude exports collapsing and international <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/04\/senators-propose-aid-sanctions-venezuela-190403203937542.html\">sanctions<\/a> piling up, Venezuela&#8217;s oil economy has crumbled.
