Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has warned that his country\u00a0is facing war as it struggles to contain what the United Nations<\/a> calls a significant surge in violence.<\/p>\n

In late March, more than 153 people died in one of the worst attacks<\/a> between rival tribes in the country’s history, while armed groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL<\/a>, also known as\u00a0ISIS)\u00a0and al-Qaeda<\/a> are gaining strength.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But as the government warns of turmoil in the country, UN peacekeepers are leaving.\u00a0Canada<\/a> and the Netherlands<\/a> are set to withdraw their soldiers, and the United States<\/a> is questioning the mission’s effectiveness.<\/p>\n
