{"id":37613,"date":"2019-03-27T08:23:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T08:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=37613"},"modified":"2019-03-27T08:23:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-27T08:23:01","slug":"yemens-war-kitaf-air-raid-kills-seven-including-four-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=37613","title":{"rendered":"Yemen&#8217;s war: Kitaf air raid kills seven, including four children"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"128.084775698\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">Seven people, including four children, were killed in an air raid near a hospital in a rural area of northwest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/yemen.html\">Yemen<\/a>, aid group Save the Children said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The organisation, which supports the hospital, said in a statement sent to the Associated Press news agency that two adults were also unaccounted for after the attack on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Save The Children said a missile struck a petrol station near the entrance to Kitaf rural hospital, about 100km from the city of Saada, at 9:30am local time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The missile was said to have landed within 50 metres of the facility&#8217;s main building,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation said the hospital had been open for half an hour and many patients and staff were arriving on a busy morning.<\/p>\n<p>Among the dead were a health worker and the worker&#8217;s two children and a security guard, it said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"imagecontainer item\" data-image-url=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/mritems\/Images\/2019\/3\/24\/8bd144ce1311406c9f5dfb1d3f6314b7_6.jpg\">\n<table class=\"image\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/mritems\/Images\/2019\/3\/24\/8bd144ce1311406c9f5dfb1d3f6314b7_6.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"caption\">\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Save the Children, which reported earlier this week that on average 37 Yemeni children a month had been killed or injured by foreign bombs in the last year, demanded an urgent investigation into the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the organisation&#8217;s chief executive, said: &#8220;We are shocked and appalled by this outrageous attack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-embeded-watch-vid article-embed-tb-block article-embedded-card embed-spotlight smaller-at-mobile\">\n<div class=\"article-embed-img-wrap\">\n<div class=\"img-wrapper\"><img class=\"img-responsive\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>SPOTLIGHT<\/p>\n<h4><a class=\"article-embed-title\" href=\"https:\/\/interactive.aljazeera.com\/aje\/2018\/Saudi-Arabia-air-raids-on-Yemen\/index.html\">Infographic: Death From Above<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Innocent children and health workers have lost their lives in what appears to been an indiscriminate attack on a hospital in a densely populated civilian area,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Attacks like these are a breach of international law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thorning-Schmidt said the hospital is one of many Save the Children supports in Yemen, &#8220;but time after time, we see a complete disregard by all warring parties in Yemen for the basic rules of war.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"190322162058157\">conflict in Yemen<\/a> began with the 2014 takeover of the capital, Sanaa, by Houthi rebels, who toppled the government of Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.<\/p>\n<p>A Saudi-led coalition allied with Hadi&#8217;s internationally recognised government has been fighting the Houthis since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Air raids by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have hit schools, hospitals and wedding parties and killed thousands of Yemeni civilians.
