{"id":36079,"date":"2019-03-18T14:23:16","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T14:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=36079"},"modified":"2019-03-18T14:23:16","modified_gmt":"2019-03-18T14:23:16","slug":"rouhani-iran-will-file-legal-case-against-us-for-sanctions-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=36079","title":{"rendered":"Rouhani: Iran will file legal case against US for sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1468401\/middle-east\" readability=\"67\">\n<p>\nLONDON: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that the government would file a legal case in Iran against US officials who imposed sanctions on the country as a precursor to action in international courts.<\/p>\n<p>\nRouhani said in a speech broadcast live on state television that US sanctions had created difficulties including a weaker rial currency that has fed into higher inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe United States reimposed sanctions on Tehran after US President Donald Trump chose last May to abandon Iran\u2019s 2015 nuclear accord, negotiated with five other world powers.<\/p>\n<p>\nRouhani said he had ordered the ministries of foreign affairs and justice \u201cto file a legal case in Iranian courts against those in America who designed and imposed sanctions on Iran.\u201d \u201cThese sanctions are crime against humanity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\nIf the Iranian court finds against the US officials, Iran will pursue the case in international courts of justice, the president said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThe Americans have only one goal: they want to come back to Iran and rule the nation again,\u201d Rouhani said, reiterating Tehran\u2019s view that US sanctions are aimed at overthrowing the government and ushering in one more aligned with US policies.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe sanctions permit trade in humanitarian goods such as food and pharmaceuticals but measures imposed on banks, and trade restrictions, could make such items more expensive as well as more difficult to pay for.<\/p>\n<p>\nTrump said when he pulled out of the landmark 2015 deal that lifted international sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its atomic activities that it failed to rein in Iran\u2019s missile program or curb its regional meddling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that the government would file a legal case in Iran against US officials who imposed sanctions on the country as a precursor to action in international courts.
