{"id":33432,"date":"2019-02-27T12:23:04","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T12:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=33432"},"modified":"2019-02-27T12:23:04","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T12:23:04","slug":"nepal-tourism-minister-adhikari-among-7-dead-in-helicopter-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=33432","title":{"rendered":"Nepal Tourism Minister Adhikari among 7 dead in helicopter crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"108.465116279\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">Nepalese Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari has been confirmed dead in a helicopter crash in the east of the country, according to a <span>home ministry\u00a0<\/span>spokesman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Adhikari was among seven people on board the private helicopter, travelling\u00a0<span>from the eastern district of Taplejung to Terathum,\u00a0<\/span>when it went down in a forest on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">&#8220;The dead bodies of Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari and six others have been identified at the crash site,&#8221; said Ram Krishna Subedi, spokesman for the home ministry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Uttam Raj Subedi, a police spokesman, had earlier confirmed that five bodies had been found at the site of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The helicopter was returning after a trip to Pathivara [a religious site in Taplejung district],&#8221; Home Secretary Prem Kumar told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Local media reported that Adhikari had travelled to the area to inspect the construction of an airport.<\/p>\n<p>Residents informed the police about a huge flame at the crash site, moments after the helicopter was reported missing, <a href=\"http:\/\/kathmandupost.ekantipur.com\/news\/2019-02-27\/chopper-carrying-minister-rabindra-adhikari-crashes-in-taplejung.html\" target=\"_blank\">Kathmandu Post said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The crash site is about 240 kilometres northeast of the capital Kathmandu.<\/p>\n<p>Air Dynasty is a private helicopter operator that caters for tourists and locals in the country&#8217;s remote areas.<\/p>\n<p>It is just the latest aviation accident to plague Nepal, an impoverished Himalayan nation with a poor air safety record.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2018, six people were killed when a helicopter crashed in a dense forest area of central Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>In April last year, a Malaysian jet with 139 people on board aborted its takeoff and skidded off a runway.<\/p>\n<p>A month earlier, a US-Bangla Airlines plane crashed near an airport, killing 51 people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/nepal.html\">Nepal<\/a>-based airlines are banned from flying in the European Union airspace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div readability=\"32\">\n<p>\n            SOURCE:<br \/>\n            <span>Al Jazeera and news agencies<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nepalese Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari has been confirmed dead in a helicopter crash in the east of the country, according to a home ministry\u00a0spokesman.
