{"id":30614,"date":"2019-01-26T01:23:04","date_gmt":"2019-01-26T01:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=30614"},"modified":"2019-01-26T01:23:04","modified_gmt":"2019-01-26T01:23:04","slug":"us-government-shutdown-to-end-without-trumps-border-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=30614","title":{"rendered":"US government shutdown to end without Trump&#8217;s border wall"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"125.559097978\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">The US Senate and House of Representatives voted unanimously on Friday to end a 35-day partial federal government shutdown with legislation to temporarily fund many agencies, but without the $5.7bn President Donald Trump had demanded this year to help build a wall on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/spotlight\/mexico-border.html\">US-Mexico<\/a> border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Trump is expected to sign the bill, which will provide funding through February 15 and end the longest government shutdown in US history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Earlier in the day, in an apparent about-face on his demand for a wall, Trump announced that a deal had been reached.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,&#8221; Trump said at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said in the meantime a bipartisan committee of lawmakers would meet to discuss the nation&#8217;s border security needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In a short while, I will sign a bill to open our government for three weeks until February 15. I will make sure that all employees receive their back pay very quickly, or as soon as possible,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>The president first allowed the partial shutdown to go into effect in December after Democrats refused to approve the billions of dollars in funding for a wall along the US-Mexico border.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Flight issues\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Pressure mounted on Trump as the shutdown was threatening the economy and left hundreds of thousands of federal workers missing a second paycheque on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-led US Senate rejected two shutdown-ending bills on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats in the House had demanded a reopening of the government before any negotiations with Trump and his Republican allies in Congress on border security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration reported flight stoppages and flight delays at international airports in New York, Philadelphia and Newark, among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, Trump had dug in on his demand for a wall, but leading Democrats refused to budge, offering funding for border security other than a wall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, however, Trump said the US does not need a concrete border wall along the entirety of the southern border.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not need 2,000 miles of concrete wall from sea to shining sea.
