{"id":29964,"date":"2019-01-21T01:24:03","date_gmt":"2019-01-21T01:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=29964"},"modified":"2019-01-21T01:24:03","modified_gmt":"2019-01-21T01:24:03","slug":"turkish-us-consulate-worker-faces-charges-over-gulen-links-dha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=29964","title":{"rendered":"Turkish US consulate worker faces charges over Gulen links: DHA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"61\">\n<p>\nBEIRUT: Lebanon used an Arab economic summit on Sunday to urge the return of refugees to safe areas of Syria after eight years of war.<\/p>\n<p>\nPresident Michel Aoun told the meeting Lebanon was overwhelmed by Syrian and Palestinian refugees, who make up about half the population of a country struggling with an economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe proposed the creation of an Arab bank for reconstruction and development \u201cto help all affected Arab states overcome adversity and contribute to their sustainable economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nThe meeting is the first economic and development summit since 2013, and comes as Syria, Yemen and Libya remain gripped by violence and Iraq confronts a massive reconstruction challenge after its costly victory over Daesh.<\/p>\n<p>\nArab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said nearly half of all refugees \u201ccome from our Arab world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nThe emir of Qatar, and the president of Mauritania were the only heads of state from the 22-member Arab League who attended the summit. Other countries sent lower-level delegations.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe other leaders\u2019 absence was a snub to Lebanon, where groups led by Hezbollah had insisted that Bashar Assad of Syria should be invited.<\/p>\n<p>\nSeveral hundred people protested in the streets of Beirut on Sunday, blaming politicians for growing economic troubles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BEIRUT: Lebanon used an Arab economic summit on Sunday to urge the return of refugees to safe areas of Syria after eight years of war.
