{"id":29744,"date":"2019-01-19T06:22:22","date_gmt":"2019-01-19T06:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=29744"},"modified":"2019-01-19T06:22:22","modified_gmt":"2019-01-19T06:22:22","slug":"eu-countries-could-snub-us-poland-summit-over-iran-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=29744","title":{"rendered":"EU countries could snub US-Poland summit over Iran concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"120.431372549\">\n<p class=\"speakable\"><a class=\"InternalLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/organisations\/european-union.html\">European Union<\/a> countries could snub an international conference on the Middle East\u00a0scheduled to take place in Poland next month over concerns it is part of a US drive to ramp up pressure on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/iran.html\">Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">EU diplomats raised questions about the real agenda of the February 13-14 conference on Friday, saying it was organised at very short notice and noting that Iran did not appear to be invited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">An EU official said the bloc&#8217;s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, had other commitments and would not attend.<\/p>\n<p>An official told the Wall Street Journal that there was a lot of &#8220;uncertainty about the participation of many other EU member states at ministerial level&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to PressTV, one European diplomat said the bloc will not be &#8220;joining an anti-Iran coalition&#8221;. And a group of activists in the US and other countries signed a petition calling on European countries to boycott the summit.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif dismissed the planned event as a &#8220;desperate anti-Iran circus&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"9.68\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Reminder to host\/participants of anti-Iran conference: those who attended last US anti-Iran show are either dead, disgraced, or marginalized.
