{"id":28876,"date":"2019-01-12T20:23:27","date_gmt":"2019-01-12T20:23:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=28876"},"modified":"2019-01-12T20:23:27","modified_gmt":"2019-01-12T20:23:27","slug":"huawei-sacks-chinese-employee-accused-of-spying-in-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=28876","title":{"rendered":"Huawei sacks Chinese employee accused of spying in Poland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"103.544901777\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei has said it has terminated the employment of a Chinese worker arrested on spying allegations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/poland.html\">Poland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Wang Weijing was arrested for &#8220;personal reasons&#8221;, the company said in a statement on Saturday.\u00a0&#8220;This incident created harmful effects on Huawei&#8217;s global reputation,&#8221; the company said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Polish authorities on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/01\/poland-charges-including-huawei-manager-spying-china-190111120511777.html\">arrested<\/a>\u00a0Weijing and a former Polish security official on spying allegations, a move that could increase Western security concerns about the telecoms equipment maker.<\/p>\n<p>Maciej Wasik, deputy head of Poland&#8217;s special service, said the operation that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects had been under way for a long time and was planned with care.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both carried out espionage activities against Poland,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Polish state TV\u00a0identified the arrested Pole as Piotr D, saying he was a high-ranking employee at the Internal Security Agency, Poland&#8217;s domestic counterintelligence agency, until 2011,\u00a0where he served as deputy director in the department of information security.<\/p>\n<h2>Intense scrutiny<\/h2>\n<p>Huawei, the world&#8217;s biggest producer of telecoms equipment, faces intense scrutiny in the West over its relationship with the Chinese government and US-led allegations that its equipment could be used by Beijing for spying.<\/p>\n<p>A number of European governments and telecom companies have followed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/united-states.html\">United States<\/a> in questioning whether using Huawei for vital\u00a0<span>mobile network\u00a0<\/span>infrastructure could open networks to spying by the Chinese government.<\/p>\n<p>The US blocked Huawei from operating in its territory in 2012, when a House Intelligence Committee report said it was a security risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Huawei&#8217;s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, who is also the daughter of the company&#8217;s founder, was detained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/canada.html\">Canada<\/a> last month on a US extradition bid.<\/p>\n<p>Her arrest follows US efforts to blacklist the company internationally over security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In apparent retaliation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/china.html\">China<\/a> has since detained two Canadians &#8211; a former diplomat and a business consultant &#8211; on suspicion of endangering national security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div readability=\"32\">\n<p>\n            SOURCE:<br \/>\n            <span>Al Jazeera and news agencies<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei has said it has terminated the employment of a Chinese worker arrested on spying allegations in Poland.
