{"id":28710,"date":"2019-01-11T12:24:44","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T12:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=28710"},"modified":"2019-01-11T12:24:44","modified_gmt":"2019-01-11T12:24:44","slug":"sudan-organizers-urge-nationwide-protests-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=28710","title":{"rendered":"Sudan organizers urge nationwide protests next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1433921\/middle-east\" readability=\"56\">\n<p>\nKHARTOUM: Demonstrators took to the streets after Friday prayers, demanding the resignation of the Sudanese government.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Sudanese police fired tear gas at protesters in Khartoum and Omdurman, witnesses told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0Earlier on Friday, a Sudanese group that has spearheaded anti-government demonstrations since last month called Friday for nationwide protests next week to pile pressure on the government of President Omar Al-Bashir.<br \/>The demonstrations that erupted on December 19 over a government decision to triple the price of bread have swiftly escalated into broader protests that are widely seen as the biggest threat to Bashir\u2019s rule in three decades in power.<br \/>\u201cWe will launch a week of uprising with demonstrations in every Sudanese town and village,\u201d the Sudanese Professionals\u2019 Association said.<br \/>The group called for a major rally in Khartoum North on Sunday, to be followed by further demonstrations in the capital during the week.<br \/>The association, which has mobilized its membership to keep up the momentum of the protests, has already called for a rally after midday prayers on Friday in the eastern town of Atbara, where the demonstrations began.<br \/>At least 22 people have been killed during the protests, including two security personnel, according to the authorities.<br \/>Human rights groups have put the death toll much higher.
