{"id":27485,"date":"2018-12-31T01:23:04","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T01:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=27485"},"modified":"2018-12-31T01:23:04","modified_gmt":"2018-12-31T01:23:04","slug":"30-children-of-russian-daesh-militants-return-home-from-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=27485","title":{"rendered":"30 children of Russian Daesh militants return home  from Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1427941\/middle-east\" readability=\"89\">\n<p>\n\u00a0BAGHDAD:\u00a0Thirty Russian children whose mothers are in Iraqi prison for belonging to Daesh left Baghdad on Sunday to return home, a Russian diplomatic source said.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe fathers of the children, young boys and girls between the ages of three and 10, are believed to have been killed in combat during Iraq\u2019s three-year war against the militants, the source said.<\/p>\n<p>\nChechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov said earlier this week that he expected the children to arrive in Moscow on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe said 24 of them were from Dagestan, and another three were from Chechnya.<\/p>\n<p>\nSeveral thousand Russians traveled to join the militants in their once sprawling \u201ccaliphate\u201d straddling Syria and Iraq, according to estimates from the Russian security services. Some took their families with them.<\/p>\n<p>\nSince last year, around 100 women and children \u2014 mostly from Russia\u2019s Muslim-majority Caucasus \u2014 have returned under a program championed by Kadyrov.<\/p>\n<p>\nBut in mid-November, Chechen activist Kheda Saratova accused Russia\u2019s FSB security service of blocking attempts to bring back the remaining widows and children of Russian Daesh militants.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cAccording to our organization, there are over 2,000 of them left in Syria and Iraq,\u201d Saratova, who is on Kadyrov\u2019s human rights council, said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\nMeanwhile on Sunday Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi held talks in Baghdad with Anna Kuznetsova, the Russian president\u2019s envoy for the rights of children. During the meeting, Abdel Mahdi said a \u201cdistinction should be made between humanitarian issues and terrorist crimes,\u201d according to a statement from his office.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThese children are also victims,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\nMore than 300 people, including around 100 foreigners, have been sentenced to death and many others to life imprisonment in Iraq for joining Daesh, which at its peak controlled nearly a third of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\nBaghdad declared victory against Daesh in December last year, but the militants maintain sleeper cells and have carried out periodic hit-and-run attacks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0BAGHDAD:\u00a0Thirty Russian children whose mothers are in Iraqi prison for belonging to Daesh left Baghdad on Sunday to return home, a Russian diplomatic source said.
