China&#8217;s was worse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\"><cite class=\"el-editorial-source\">Hong Kong (CNN Business)<\/cite>The recent turbulence in US stock markets pales in comparison with China&#8217;s dismal 2018.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\">While <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/data\/markets\/dow\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Dow<\/a> and other major US indexes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/12\/20\/investing\/dow-jones-nasdaq-oil-prices\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">have plunged<\/a> in recent weeks, the sell-off in China started much earlier and has been uglier. <\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\">The benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/data\/world_markets\/se_composite\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shanghai Composite<\/a> slumped into a bear market \u2014 a 20% fall from a recent high \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2018\/06\/26\/investing\/china-stock-market-bear\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">in June<\/a>. And things have gone further downhill since then.
