{"id":23240,"date":"2018-11-26T04:22:50","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T04:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=23240"},"modified":"2018-11-26T04:22:50","modified_gmt":"2018-11-26T04:22:50","slug":"nasas-insight-mission-when-will-it-land-and-why-should-we-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=23240","title":{"rendered":"NASA&#8217;s Insight Mission: When will it land and why should we care?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"article-body\" readability=\"63.6210214656\">\n<p>NASA&#8217;s six-month expedition to reach Mars to study its interior will take seven minutes to land on Monday at 20:00 GMT.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">InSight Lander &#8211; the Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport &#8211; is the US space agency&#8217;s first craft dedicated to peer beneath Mars&#8217; surface and monitor its interior.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"><span>According to NASA, it is the first outer space robotic explorer designed to give the billions-years-old Mars a &#8220;thorough checkup&#8221; by studying its crust, mantle and core.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Out of the 44 NASA missions sent to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vpn.aljazeera.net.qa\/news\/2018\/10\/,DanaInfo=www.aljazeera.com,SSL+mars-oxygen-support-life-study-181022203623467.html\">Mars<\/a>, only 18 have been successful. The &#8220;seven minutes of terror&#8221;, which are possibly the riskiest in the entire mission, will be when the robotic spacecraft will enter the Martian atmopshere at supersonic speed, then touchdown on the red planet&#8217;s region called\u00a0<span>Elysium Planitia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It can take up to 20 minutes for the spacecraft&#8217;s signals to reach Earth, leaving mission planners in limbo to find out if everything went according to plan.
