{"id":22816,"date":"2018-11-22T14:22:20","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T14:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=22816"},"modified":"2018-11-22T14:22:20","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T14:22:20","slug":"nissan-board-fires-chairman-carlos-ghosn-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=22816","title":{"rendered":"Nissan board fires chairman Carlos Ghosn: media"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"94.0983050847\">\n<p class=\"speakable\"><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Nissan<\/span>&#8216;s board has removed Carlos Ghosn as its <span>chairman days\u00a0<\/span>after the shock arrest of the industry heavyweight, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported, ushering in a period of uncertainty for its 19-year alliance with Renault.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The Franco-Japanese alliance, enlarged in 2016 to include Japan&#8217;s Mitsubishi Motors, has been rattled to its core by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/11\/nissan-chief-carlos-ghosn-arrested-181119134443489.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ghosn&#8217;s arrest<\/a> in Japan on Monday, with the 64-year-old group chairman accused of financial misconduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Ghosn had shaped the alliance and was pushing for a deeper tie-up, including potentially a full Renault-<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Nissan\u00a0<\/span>merger at the French government&#8217;s request, despite strong reservations at the Japanese firm.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese prosecutors said Ghosn and Representative Director Greg Kelly, who has also been arrested, conspired to understate the former&#8217;s compensation at<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">\u00a0Nissan\u00a0<\/span>over five years from 2010, saying it was about half the actual 10 billion yen ($88m).<\/p>\n<p>Shin Kukimoto, deputy public prosecutor at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, said on Thursday that the court approval was received a day earlier to detain Ghosn for 10 days but he could not comment on whether he had admitted to the allegations.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Nissan\u00a0<\/span>executives have five seats on the nine-member board, Renault loyalists have two seats and the remaining two are held by unaffiliated outside directors &#8211; a former bureaucrat and a race driver.<\/p>\n<p>With Ghosn and Kelly still in the custody, they were not able to vote or defend themselves at the meeting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nissan&#8217;s board has removed Carlos Ghosn as its chairman days\u00a0after the shock arrest of the industry heavyweight, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported, ushering in a period of uncertainty for its 19-year alliance with Renault.
