{"id":21950,"date":"2018-11-15T14:23:31","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T14:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=21950"},"modified":"2018-11-15T14:23:31","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T14:23:31","slug":"flights-departing-from-kuwait-international-airport-suspended-due-to-bad-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=21950","title":{"rendered":"Flights departing from Kuwait International Airport suspended due to bad weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"63\">\n<p>\nBEIRUT: Bank deposits in Lebanon have risen by 4 percent on the year, Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh said on Thursday, and he maintained his economic growth outlook for 2018 at 2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn July Salameh had said he expected bank deposits to grow by more than 5 percent in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn October the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) halved their growth outlook to one percent for Lebanon, where public debt is about 150 percent of gross domestic product.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cLebanese banks have succeeded in maintaining foreign exchange inflows into their sector supported by (the central bank),\u201d Salmeh said in a televised speech at a Beirut economic conference.<\/p>\n<p>\nWith growth low and traditional sources of foreign exchange \u2014 tourism, real estate and foreign investment \u2014 undermined by years of regional tension, Lebanon increasingly relies on dollars expatriate Lebanese deposit in local banks.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe banks buy government debt, which finances the country\u2019s eye-watering public debt and twin deficits.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe central bank also brings in dollars through complex financial operations with local banks to boost foreign currency reserves needed to defend the Lebanese pound\u2019s peg to the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>\nHowever, deposits have been growing at a slower rate since war broke out in neighboring Syria in 2011, and deposit growth rates are closely watched.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BEIRUT: Bank deposits in Lebanon have risen by 4 percent on the year, Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh said on Thursday, and he maintained his economic growth outlook for 2018 at 2 percent.
