{"id":21844,"date":"2018-11-10T16:22:59","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=21844"},"modified":"2018-11-10T16:22:59","modified_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:22:59","slug":"lebanons-aoun-vows-to-find-solution-over-government-impasse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=21844","title":{"rendered":"Lebanon\u2019s Aoun vows to find solution over government impasse"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1402476\/middle-east\" readability=\"84\">\n<p>BEIRUT: Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Saturday that a solution would be found to a political row that has blocked the formation of a new national unity government for more than six months since a general election in May.<br \/>\n<br \/>The country is in dire need of a government able to implement economic reforms that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) says are necessary.<br \/>\n<br \/>The last sticking point surrounds Sunni Muslim representation in the country\u2019s cabinet where the 30 seats must be allocated along sectarian lines.<br \/>\n<br \/>The powerful Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah says one of its Sunni allies must be represented in the government to reflect the gains they made in the election.<br \/>\n<br \/>But Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri, who is Lebanon\u2019s main Sunni politician and enjoys Western backing, has ruled out allocating any of his cabinet seats to them.<br \/>\n<br \/>The Hezbollah-allied Sunnis are also known for their close ties to the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad.<br \/>\n<br \/>Aoun said no effort would be spared to resolve the problem.<br \/>\n<br \/>\u201cThe matter requires bravery and patience to reach the end, but we will find the solution because waiting is a waste of time,\u201d a statement from the presidency cited Aoun as saying in a meeting with the head of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.<br \/>\n<br \/>A statement from Hezbollah on Saturday said the group\u2019s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, had met with Aoun\u2019s son-in-law and close adviser Gebran Bassil to discuss the formation of a government and efforts \u201cto resolve the complications.\u201d<br \/>\n<br \/>Bassil heads the Free Patriotic Movement, the party established by Aoun.<br \/>\n<br \/>Druze leader Walid Jumblatt on Friday voiced fears for Lebanon\u2019s currency if the deadlock continues.<br \/>\n<br \/>While politicians have often warned of the risk of an economic crisis in Lebanon, public expressions of concern for the currency are rare.
