{"id":19936,"date":"2018-10-26T16:24:44","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T16:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=19936"},"modified":"2018-10-26T16:24:44","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T16:24:44","slug":"israels-netanyahu-pays-surprise-visit-to-oman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=19936","title":{"rendered":"Israel\u2019s Netanyahu pays surprise visit to Oman"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1394321\/middle-east\" readability=\"138.485116653\">\n<p>\nAMMAN: Rescuers combed the shores of Jordan\u2019s Dead Sea resort area early on Friday to find survivors after rain storms unleashed flash floods that killed at least 21 people, most of them school children on a school outing.<\/p>\n<p>\nThirty seven people were rescued in a major operation involving helicopters and army and divers searching for survivors of the floods which swept through valleys to the shores of the area, the lowest point on earth, civil defense sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\nPolice chief Brig. Gen. Farid Al-Sharaa told state television the torrential rains swept away a bus carrying 44 children and teachers who were on a school trip picnicking in the popular destination.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe national flag was lowered to half-mast in mourning as public opinion and politicians began raising questions in local media outlets about the preparedness of national emergencies services to cope with such a disaster.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"750\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2018\/10\/26\/1350341-1964930925.jpg\" width=\"1000\"><\/p>\n<p>\nJordan\u2019s King Abdullah II said Friday that the extent of his grief and pain cannot be matched except by the anger that he feels towards everyone who was negligent during the flash floods. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nKing Abdullah II also offered his condolences to Iraq\u2019s leaders after it emerged that two female students of Iraqi nationality were amongst the victims of the flash floods that swept Jordan on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\nPrime Minister Omar Razzaz said it appeared the school had broken regulations by going ahead with the trip which had been banned in the Dead Sea area because of bad weather.<\/p>\n<p>\nJordan\u2019s King Abdullah II\u00a0presided\u00a0a National Policies Council meeting to discuss the repercussions of the disaster caused by flash floods that took place on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"642\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2018\/10\/26\/1350346-907878686.jpg\" width=\"1000\"><\/p>\n<p>\nAn unknown number of people were still missing, hospital sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\nJordan\u2019s ministry of health announced Friday that all patients who had been admitted to Shounah hospital with injuries following rain storms in the country have been released after receiving treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Jordanian ministry of tourism said that none of those missing after the flash floods in the country are foreign tourists.<\/p>\n<p>\nA bridge on one of the cliffs of the Dead Sea had collapsed under the force of the rains, the first such after the end of the summer season.<\/p>\n<p>\nFamilies of victims were searching the rugged area after search teams suspended operations overnight for a few hours, a witness said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"5.628\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\n18 people killed in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Jordan?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Jordan<\/a> due to heavy floods as a result of a rain storm. Families picnicking in the popular destination were also among the dead and injured.<\/p>\n<p>\nHundreds of families and relatives converged on Southern Shounah hospital on Thursday, a few kilometers from the resort area. Relatives sobbed and searched for details about the missing children.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nA doctor in the hospital emergency room said the \u201cbodies kept on coming.\u201d \u201cAmbulances were coming and leaving, dropping dead people and dropping injured people of different ages.
