{"id":19882,"date":"2018-10-26T05:24:35","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T05:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=19882"},"modified":"2018-10-26T05:24:35","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T05:24:35","slug":"18-dead-as-flash-flood-hits-jordan-school-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=19882","title":{"rendered":"18 dead as flash flood hits Jordan school trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1393886\/middle-east\" readability=\"99.6634400596\">\n<p>\nAMMAN: At least 18 people, mainly children and teachers on a school outing, were killed on Thursday in a flash flood near the Dead Sea in Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>\nUp to 34 people were rescued in a dramatic operation involving helicopters, marine divers, swimmers and boats, after a bus with 37 schoolchildren and seven teachers on a trip to a resort area of hot springs were swept into a valley by raging flood waters.<\/p>\n<p>\nLate on Thursday, 10 more children and a teacher were found and awaiting rescue.<\/p>\n<p>\nMany of those killed were children under 14. Families picnicking in the popular destination were also among the dead and injured.<\/p>\n<p>\nHundreds of families and relatives converged on Southern Shounah hospital, a few kilometers from the resort area. Relatives sobbed and searched for details about the missing children.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nA doctor in the hospital emergency room said the \u201cbodies kept on coming.\u201d \u201cAmbulances were coming and leaving, dropping dead people and dropping injured people of different ages.
