{"id":18486,"date":"2018-10-15T02:22:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T02:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=18486"},"modified":"2018-10-15T02:22:19","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T02:22:19","slug":"hunter-kills-british-cyclist-in-france-police-speak-of-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=18486","title":{"rendered":"Hunter kills British cyclist in France, police speak of accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"84.5206766917\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">A 34-year old British man has been shot dead by a hunter while cycling in the French Alps in what appears to be an accident, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The victim, a restaurateur living in the nearby Haute-Savoie region, was killed by a bullet while cycling down a path along woods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">A 22-year-old man taking part in a group hunt is believed to have shot the bullet, police said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The hunter was admitted to hospital for shock after the Saturday evening shooting and could not be taken into custody while he is investigated on suspicion of aggravated manslaughter, Thonon-Les-Bains prosecutor Philippe Toccanier said.<\/p>\n<p>Toccanier told The Associated Press news agency that the victim, who is from Wales but lived in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/france.html\">France<\/a>, was cycling down a mountain at around 6pm when he passed near a group of about 10 game hunters.<\/p>\n<p>Toccanier said the cyclist certainly &#8220;couldn&#8217;t be confused with game, as he had a coloured helmet and a coloured mountain bike&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Britain&#8217;s Foreign Office says it&#8217;s &#8220;in contact with the local authorities&#8221; and providing assistance to the victim&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year old British man has been shot dead by a hunter while cycling in the French Alps in what appears to be an accident, police said.
