{"id":17239,"date":"2018-10-03T19:26:04","date_gmt":"2018-10-03T19:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=17239"},"modified":"2018-10-03T19:26:04","modified_gmt":"2018-10-03T19:26:04","slug":"italian-sentenced-to-12-years-for-african-migrants-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=17239","title":{"rendered":"Italian sentenced to 12 years for African migrants shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"86.6437346437\">\n<p class=\"speakable\">A far-right sympathiser who injured six Africans during a violent revenge attack in the central Italian town of Macerata has been sentenced to 12 years in jail, media reports said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Luca Traini, 28, embarked on a shooting spree on February 4, following the murder of a young Italian woman by suspected Nigerian drug dealers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Pamela Mastropietro&#8217;s body was found dismembered and stuffed into suitcases days before Traini&#8217;s attack.<\/p>\n<p>The two incidents, which occurred during Italy&#8217;s tense electoral campaign, shook the country and laid bare its deep tensions surrounding immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-migrant demonstrations across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/italy.html\">Italy<\/a> condemning the attack were in contrast to an outpouring of support for Traini who received messages of solidarity for his actions. Controversially, no politicians visited his victims in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Traini was charged with attempted murder and racial hatred.<\/p>\n<p>The former security guard admitted to the shooting but rejected allegations the attack was racially-motivated, insisting he wanted to target drug dealers.<\/p>\n<p>His defence team had provided a psychiatric report which stated that Traini suffered from a personality disorder and that he was not completely aware of his actions at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A far-right sympathiser who injured six Africans during a violent revenge attack in the central Italian town of Macerata has been sentenced to 12 years in jail, media reports said.
