At least 34 people have drowned, it looks like there were 26 survivors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Moroccan official who wished to remain anonymous told Reuters that 11 bodies had been recovered so far, adding that none of the deceased were Moroccan nationals.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time\u00a0since the refugee\u00a0crisis\u00a0began\u00a0in 2015, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/morocco.html\">Morocco<\/a> to Spain route has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/saharans-tangier-pray-lucky-reach-spain-180927120046435.html\">become the most popular path<\/a> for asylum seekers attempting to reach Europe&#8217;s shores.<\/p>\n<p><span>Up until September 10 this year, a total of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/data2.unhcr.org\/en\/situations\/mediterranean\" target=\"_blank\"><span>34,994\u00a0people<\/span><\/a>\u00a0made the perilous journey,\u00a0dwarfing\u00a0numbers\u00a0for the\u00a0Libya-Italy and Turkey-Greece\u00a0routes with\u00a0<span>20,210 and 20,827<\/span>\u00a0respectively.
