a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/russia.html\">Russian<\/a> protest group Pussy Riot currently hospitalised in Berlin was poisoned, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/germany.html\">German<\/a> doctors have said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Kai-Uwe Eckardt of Berlin&#8217;s Charite hospital told reporters on Tuesday that Pyotr Verzilov was in intensive care since arriving at the hospital but that his condition was no longer life-threatening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">A prominent anti-Kremlin activist, Verzilov, 30, was flown to Germany on Saturday after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/09\/pussy-riot-pyotr-verzilov-berlin-alleged-poisoning-180916062021455.html\">falling sick<\/a> with a mysterious illness last week, hours after an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/features\/pussy-riot-pyotr-verzilov-criminal-justice-system-russia-180913230118780.html\">interview<\/a> with Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>Eckardt told reporters the activist&#8217;s symptoms and information received from relatives and the Moscow hospital where he was initially treated indicated that a poisoning took place. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Berlin hospital&#8217;s doctors had found &#8220;no evidence whatsoever that there would be another explanation for his condition,&#8221; Eckardt added, though they did not know what substance had caused the illness.<\/p>\n<p>The symptoms indicated Verzilov is suffering from anticholinergic syndrome which can result from the disruption of the nervous system regulating the inner organs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hospital Chairman Karl Max Einhaeupl said there was nothing to indicate Verzilov had voluntarily taken a drug that caused the reaction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Such substances are extremely rare in drug circles,&#8221;
