The source said the exit could take up to 18 months. <\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\"> The holder of nearly 8% of the voting rights in <span>Deutsche Bank<\/span> <span>(<span class=\"inlink_chart\"><a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/quote\/quote.html?symb=DB&#038;source=story_quote_link\" class=\"inlink\">DB<\/a><\/span>)<\/span>, HNA has in recent months sought to sell off many of its overseas investments. <\/p>\n<p> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/chinas-hna-to-exit-deutsche-bank-stake-under-pressure-from-beijing-1536307095\" target=\"_blank\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>, which was first to report the planned sale of the investment in Deutsche Bank, said that HNA was under pressure from the Chinese government to return to its core airline business. <\/p>\n<p> Representatives from HNA and Deutsche Bank declined to comment. <\/p>\n<p> News of the exit comes as Deutsche Bank is trying to persuade investors that<a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2018\/04\/08\/news\/companies\/deutsche-bank-new-ceo-cryan-sewing\/index.html\"> CEO Christian Sewing<\/a> can turnaround the bank after three years of losses by <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2018\/04\/09\/investing\/deutsche-bank-new-ceo-what-next\/index.html\">returning to its roots as a lender<\/a> to German and European companies and households. <\/p>\n<p> The bank&#8217;s shares slid 1.7% on Friday. Rival <span>Commerzbank<\/span> <span>(<span class=\"inlink_chart\"><a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/quote\/quote.html?symb=CRZBF&#038;source=story_quote_link\" class=\"inlink\">CRZBF<\/a><\/span>)<\/span> closed down 1.4% while Germany&#8217;s DAX index was little changed. <\/p>\n<p> Deutsche Bank&#8217;s stock price has declined by roughly 40% since HNA first announced it acquired a stake in February 2017. It previously owned as much as 10% of Deutsche, but offloaded a chunk of its stake earlier this year. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"body_img body_img--780\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.cdn.turner.com\/money\/dam\/assets\/180716182808-deutsche-bank-ceo-sewing-780x439.jpg\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" alt=\"deutsche bank ceo sewing\" border=\"0\"><figcaption class=\"caption\">CEO Christian Sewing is trying to revive Germany&#8217;s biggest bank. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p> HNA started as a Chinese regional airline more than two decades ago.
