{"id":12246,"date":"2018-08-21T10:25:24","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T10:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=12246"},"modified":"2018-08-21T10:25:24","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T10:25:24","slug":"iran-unveils-first-domestic-fighter-jet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=12246","title":{"rendered":"Iran unveils first domestic fighter jet"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-io-article-url=\"http:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1359711\/middle-east\" readability=\"44\">\n<p>\nTEHRAN: Iran unveiled its first domestic fighter jet at a defense show in Tehran on Tuesday.<br \/>Images on state television showed President Hassan Rouhani sitting in the cockpit of the new \u201cKowsar\u201d plane at the National Defense Industry exhibition.<br \/>It is a fourth-generation fighter, with \u201cadvanced avionics\u201d and multi-purpose radar, the Tasnim news agency said, adding that it was \u201c100-percent indigenously made.\u201d<br \/>State TV said the plane had already been through successful testing and showed it waiting on a runway for its first public display flight.<br \/>The plane was first publicly announced on Saturday by Defense Minister Amir Hatami, who had said it would be unveiled on Wednesday.<br \/>He gave few details of the project, focusing instead on Iran\u2019s efforts to upgrade its missile defenses.<br \/>Hatami said the defense program was motivated by memories of the missile attacks Iran suffered during its eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s, and by repeated threats from Israel and the United States that \u201call options are on the table\u201d in dealing with the Islamic republic.<br \/>\u201cWe have learned in the (Iran-Iraq) war that we cannot rely on anyone but ourselves.
