{"id":11454,"date":"2018-08-14T05:29:15","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T05:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=11454"},"modified":"2018-08-14T05:29:15","modified_gmt":"2018-08-14T05:29:15","slug":"irans-khamenei-no-war-no-negotiations-with-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-news.org\/qatarnewsEn\/?p=11454","title":{"rendered":"Iran&#8217;s Khamenei: No war, no negotiations with Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"130.249193028\">\n<p class=\"speakable\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/iran.html\">Iran<\/a>&#8216;s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ruled out negotiations with the administration of US President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2016\/11\/profile-president-donald-trump-161109050153947.html\">Donald Trump<\/a>, going toe-to-toe with him in a series of social media posts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">&#8220;Even if we ever &#8211; impossible as it is &#8211; negotiated with the US, it would never ever be with the current US administration,&#8221; Khamenei said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Khamenei, who has the final say in Iran&#8217;s most important political decisions, said that as demonstrated in the 2015 nuclear deal, his country will only enter into negotiations in the position of strength &#8220;so that US&#8217; pressures and uproars won&#8217;t affect us&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Recently, US officials have been talking blatantly about us. Beside sanctions, they are talking about war and negotiations. In this regard, let me say a few words to the people: THERE WILL BE NO WAR, NOR WILL WE NEGOTIATE WITH THE US,&#8221; Khamenei continued.<\/p>\n<p>In another post, he also listed a litany of reasons why Iran is not negotiating with the US, including Washington DC&#8217;s refusal to &#8220;retreat an inch from the self-asserted goals&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"3.16964285714\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Why do we not negotiate with the U.S.? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4LDBfDjRw1\">pic.twitter.com\/4LDBfDjRw1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Khamenei.ir (@khamenei_ir) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/khamenei_ir\/status\/1028970321888636934?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 13, 2018<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In recent days, Trump, who withdrew the US from the landmark deal in May and has repeatedly criticised Iran&#8217;s deal, has said that he is willing to negotiate with Iran and meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani without preconditions.<\/p>\n<p><span>But US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo quickly\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/07\/trump-talks-offer-worthless-iranian-officials-180731170956719.html\">walked back<\/a><span><span>\u00a0on some of the president&#8217;s comments, listing<span>\u00a0several demands for such a summit to take place.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rouhani responded to Trump saying that Tehran will not negotiate while the country is under sanctions, but did not rule out direct talks altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Washington reimposed sanctions against Iran on August 7.\u00a0A second round of sanctions targeting Iran&#8217;s biggest exports &#8211; oil and gas &#8211; will take effect in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"imagecontainer item\" data-image-url=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/mritems\/Images\/2018\/8\/5\/3ba7ee5d303649fcacb26364e6245134_6.jpg\">\n<table class=\"image\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/mritems\/Images\/2018\/8\/5\/3ba7ee5d303649fcacb26364e6245134_6.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"caption\">\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, echoed Khamenei&#8217;s comments in an interview with Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have no problem with dialogue but is Mr Trump really serious about talks?&#8221; Zarif said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If he is serious about talks without preconditions, well the secretary of state put some conditions for talks two hours after Trump&#8217;s comments &#8211; impossible conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first question is, if they themselves have reached an agreement inside the US about talks with or without preconditions? Our policies in the region are totally clear.
